Climbing for Satisfying a Desire, Seeking Fulfillment in God
One of my favorite pastimes is hiking; I relish discovering new trls and tackling the unknown terrn while basking in nature’s beauty and tranquility. There's so much to reflect on throughout the journey. And when I reach the summit, there's nothing like the fulfillment of being able to view the city below me from a vantage point.
Our lives are akin to hikes; we each set paths toward experiences with desires for particular outcomes in mind, ming for desired destinations.
For many of us, our common journeys involve seeking recognition: significance, acceptance and happiness. I'd even argue that the pursuit of these achievements drives dly lives.
The Pursuit of Significance
Significance, defined as the quality or state of being worthy of attention; importance, everyone's heart. We inflate with pride upon receiving acknowledgment for our talents and accomplishments, or prse for our work performance. Our self-worth is influenced by social media metrics such as followers, likes on recent posts, or people reacting to our stories.
The Journey Toward Happiness
Happiness often fuels our world; I used to believe that securing a relationship would ensure happiness in my heart despite knowing logically that perfect individuals do not exist. Yet, my spirit still yearned for this dream.
Sometimes we use material possessions and extravagant excursions as temporary solutions to chase after happiness or as means of distracting ourselves from pn points in life. We convince ourselves that acquiring things and experiences will fill gaps forever.
The Problem with the Destination
These desires and longings are not inherently bad; yet, how often have you felt unsatisfied upon securing your dream job? Or bought a new carhouse only to feel as though it didn't fulfill your expectations?
Eventually reaching for what you've longed for feels good initially--for days or even weeks. However, we're left searching for another way of filling voids eventually. The issue lies in our constant pursuit of these temporary destinations; they do not lead us toward lasting satisfaction.
God's Creation to Know Him
These pursuits are not inherently bad things; however, many times, you've landed the job you worked so hard for and not felt fulfilled afterward. Have you moved into a new house or acquired something expensive only to find yourself wondering if this is all there was?
The problem lies in searching for blessings instead of the one who bestows them. God wants us to experience abundant lives filled with His love, but when we focus on acquiring rather than knowing Him, our souls miss out on what we were created for.
Psalm 31:21 declares, Blessed be the Lord! Indeed, his lovingkindness is wonderful throughout all the earth The New International Version. The awe and wonder I feel standing on a mountntop pales in comparison to what God has prepared for those who will embark on this spiritual journey.
God's Adventure Awts You if We Begin
Now that you know our desires are not inherently bad, yet they often lead us astray from the path that fulfills us. The adventure God has planned for us can be experienced fully when we accept and seek Him.
